Q. How can I pay?
A. You can pay by:

  • Bank transfer/Internet Banking - At the checkout if bank transfer is selected you will be given the account details to deposit the money into. We check the bank account daily, so you don't need to advise us of the deposit, however we will confirm that payment has been received via your membership page. Once the payment has been confirmed we will process your order.

  • Credit card - We accept Visa, Mastercard and American Express via PayPal. Credit card transactions occurs in real time, so you will know straight away if payment has been accepted.


Q. What is PayPal and how do I make payment by credit card?
A. PayPal is the world's most popular online payment system utilising the very latest in secure technology. You do not need not need to have a PayPal account to pay by credit card. Many NZers are not familiar with PayPal, so we have set up this page with detailed information of the process.

Q. What are the shipping costs?
A. Shipping is $5.90 no matter how many items you order.

Q. How long before my order arrives?
A. Most orders will be dispatched within 24 hours on business days, ordered placed late on Friday or on weekends will be dispatched on the next available business day. Each product specifies the dispatch timeframe. Typically delivery will take between 1 - 3 business days depending on the freight carrier used and the time of year. Items posted to rural addresses will generally take longer, and at Christmas time, deliveries take about a day longer on average. Couriered items can be tracked on the Courier Post website.

Q. Can you provide a GST invoice?
A. Yes. As a general rule we don't provide a GST invoice automatically as most customers don't require them and we try to reduce our paper usage. However please request a GST invoice if you require one.

Q. What is the hold force of a magnet?
A. The most common question we are asked, is how much can a particular magnet hold. Unfortunately this can't be answered with any certainty as the hold force also depends on the properties of the object the magnet is being asked to hold. Properties of the object that will reduce the hold force include:

  • uneven surface of the object
  • the pull force being applied in a direction that is not perpendicular to the magnet
  • a metal object that is thinner than ideal (e.g. the object becomes magnetically saturated)
  • the material of the object, e.g. metals have varying degrees of iron content or can be non-magnetic, such as aluminium
  • the surface coatings

The best we can do is provide guidance based on empirical testing under ideal conditions.We list these values on the product page of every magnet, although we stress that under real world conditions you are unlikely to be able to replicate these pull forces due to the reasons given above.

Q. What safety issues should I be aware of when handling neo magnets?
A. First of all, keep these magnets out of reach of children! Although magnets are fascinating and highly educational, neo magnets are incredibly strong and can be fatal if ingested and larger magnets can crush fingers. Magnets will can also disrupt medical devices such as pacemakers and interfere with electrical and magnetic devices such as TVs, computers, tapes, credit cards etc.

Q. How do you pronounce neodymium?
A. The key is to pronounce the 'y' as an 'i', e.g. neo-dim-ium. Or if you find that a mouthful, just use the abbreviation 'neo' as in neo magnet.

Q. What are neo magnets made from?
A. Neo magnets are made from an alloy of neodymium, iron, and boron (NdFeB) to form the compound Nd2Fe14B.

Q. Are neo magnets rare earth magnets?
A. Neodymium magnets are a member of the rare earth magnet family. They are called 'rare earth' because neodymium is a member of the rare earth elements on the periodic table.

Q. What's a permanent magnet?
A. A permanent magnet is an object made from a material that is magnetized and creates its own persistent magnetic field. Neo magnets are permanent magnets.

Q. What are the strongest permanent magnets in the world?
A. At temperatures less than 80°C neo magnets are the strongest magnets in the world.

Q. Why are neo magnets so strong?
A. Magnets attract certain metals with unpaired electron in their outer orbits, such as iron. These unpaired electrons tend to align with magnetic fields. Spread throughout a chunk of metal, these unpaired electrons pull the metal toward a given magnet. Permanent magnets are magnets that are shaped in such a way that directs electron spin in a given direction. The atoms of neodymium magnets are arranged so that the electron spin is strongly aligned in a given direction, giving the compound the extreme magnetic force for which it's famous.

Q. Can I drill or machine neo magnets?
A. Neo magnets are very hard and brittle, therefore drilling and machining can be difficult and should only be undertaken by experienced people.

Q. Does stacking magnets together make them stronger?
A. Yes, two or more magnets stacked together will behave exactly like a single magnet of the combined size.

Q. What plating is used on your neo magnets?
A. Typically our neo magnets are triple coated with Ni-Cu-Ni (nickel - copper - nickel).

Q. Will neo magnets lose their strength over time?
A. Modern magnet materials lose very little of their magnetism over time. It has been shown to be less that 1% over a period of ten years.

Q. How does a magnet's strength drop off over distance?
A. A magnets field reduced exponentially over distance by a factor of the distance squared.

Q. If I have a Neo magnet with a Br of 13,300 Gauss, should I be able to measure 13,300 Gauss on its surface?
A. No. The Br value is measured under closed circuit conditions. A closed circuit magnet is not of much use. In practice, you will measure a field that is less than 13,300 Gauss close to the surface of the magnet. The actual measurement will depend on whether the magnet has any steel attached to it, how far away from the surface the measurement is made, the temperature and the size of the magnet.

Q. Can I use your neo magnets outdoors?
A. Neo magnets contain iron and are susceptible to corrosion. Our magnets are generally plated with nickel to prevent corrosion. However for outdoor use we recommend adding another layer of protection such as and epoxy or plastic coating.
